Suspect injured in shootout with police on Interstate 90

From Staff Reports

An early morning shootout along Interstate 90 through Post Falls left a suspect hospitalized and police cars reportedly damaged with bullet holes.

The shooting unfolded at 2 a.m. near milepost 5 and closed the westbound lanes of the interstate for much of Sunday, as investigators cordoned off the crime scene to preserve evidence.

Four Idaho police agencies were involved. According to a Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office release, officers from the Coeur d’Alene Police Department, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, Post Falls Police Department and the Idaho State Patrol responded.

The identity of the suspect, recovering at Kootenai Health, has not been released. He is the lone suspect in a shooting that some people said sounded like dozens of shots being fired. Other witnesses said it appeared police cars were shot.

Because of the four agencies involved, the Rathdrum Police Department and Bonner County Sheriff’s Office were called in to assist, according to a news release.
