Fresh Sheet: Seattle Wine Awards, Pilgrim’s Market

Latah Creek Wine Cellars won eight double-gold or gold medals – the most of any local winery – at the recent ninth annual Seattle Wine Awards.

Latah Creek received double-gold, the highest prize, for five of its wines: 2012 Chardonnay, 2013 Pinot Gris, 2012 Riesling, 2012 Sweet Riesling and 2012 Moscato. The winery won gold, or best in category, for its Monarch Red, 2011 Malbec and 2012 Muscat Canelli.

These award-winning wines will be on sale during Latah Creek’s 32nd Anniversary Sale July 19 to 31. The winery, founded in 1982, is owned by Mike and Ellena Conway.

More medals

A few other local wineries also won medals at the 2014 Seattle Wine Awards: Robert Karl, Liberty Lake, Barili and Bridge Press cellars.

Robert Karl Cellars won double-gold for its 2011 Claret and bronze for its 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon.

Liberty Lake Cellars won gold for its 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2009 Heritage Red.

Barili Cellars won double-gold for its 2012 Liquorosso and silver for its 2011 Double Barrel Red.

Bridge Press won gold for its 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon and silver for its 2010 Merlot and 2012 Riesling.

The Walla Walla-based Cougar Crest Estate Winery, which has a tasting room in Spokane, also won gold for its 2010 Cabernet Franc and silver for its 2012 Viognier.

Beer and Bordeaux

Pilgrim’s Market is hosting two free tastings this week.

Sample brews from Colorado’s Oskar Blues Brewery this afternoon. Friday, sip and swirl Bordeaux with fine wine seller Jim Daanen.
