Obituary: Troemel, Norman L.
Born in Mitchell, SD to Gustav Troemel and Marie Muench on February 12, 1922, he was the oldest of four children.
Soon the family moved to Sioux Falls, SD where his father was a Lutheran minister.
Norm attended Iowa State U until he volunteered for the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater, WWII until 1946.
He returned to attend and graduate from Drake University in Des Moines, IA in 1949.
Norm married Betty Scott in 1946 and they had two children, Jim and Nancy.
The family moved to Appleton,WI and then, in 1972, moved to Spokane while the children attended college in the mid-west.
Betty soon chose to return to the mid-west and Norm remarried in 1975 to Clarinda Rew Troemel who survives him.
Norm retired from insurance sales about 1976, but his love of fishing, gardening, camping, running and investments kept him busy until recently.
He ran Bloomsday yearly from 1977 thru 2009.
Surrounded by family, Norm and Clarinda had many years of travel, camping and improving their river beach property near Usk which was a gathering place for the entire family.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents, brother Roland, grandchild Audrey Troemel and step-son Mike Farley.
He is survived by his wife, son Jim (Laurie) Troemel, daughter Nancy (Michael) Shinners, three grandchildren, Clare, Sam and Ben Shinners, step- children Wendy (Robert) McNairy, Brenda (Dennis) Powell, step- daughter-in-law, Pam Farley, seven step-grandchildren, 12 step- great-grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews.
Norm’s ashes will be interred at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake at a later date.
