Spokane Shock quarterback Erik Meyer was voted AFL MVP for Week 15 of the 2014 Arena Football League season.

Meyer (Eastern Washington) tossed three touchdown passes and rushed for three more in Spokane’s 70-30 victory over the San Antonio Talons on Friday. In his first start since suffering a shoulder injury on May 4, the 6-foot-2 Meyer returned to break his own single-season franchise record for rushing scores by recording his 16th of the year last week.

Fans had 24 hours to vote for the weekly MVP award on ArenaFootball.com. Meyer took home 52 percent of the vote, beating out fellow quarterback candidates Nick Davila of the Arizona Rattlers and Tommy Grady of the Cleveland Gladiators.

Meyer and the Shock will look to clinch their fourth playoff berth in five years when they travel to Anaheim this Saturday for a matchup with the L.A. Kiss (3-10) in a game televised nationaly on ESPN2. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Kickball tournament

Former Gonzaga standout Dan Dickau is hosting the inaugural Lilac City Charity Kickball Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 2, at Franklin Sports Complex. Proceeds and donations from the event will be presented to Spokane charities, including the Lilac City Figure Skating Club.

Cost is $350 per team. About 50 teams are expected for the one-day event. Registration is available at https://www.facebook.com/lccharitykickballtournament.

Showcase golf

The Showcase, a charity fundraiser for the Community Cancer Fund and The V Foundation for Cancer Research, will take place August 17-18 at the Coeur d’Alene Resort and Golf Course.

Professional golfers, professional athletes and coaches will be part of the event, which is presented in partnership with Nike Golf and includes a celebrity-amateur round at the Resort on Sunday, Aug. 17, and a nine-hole golf exhibition the following day.
