USGA executive director Mike Davis thrilled with condition of Chambers Bay

USGA executive director Mike Davis (pictured, foreground) says the organization could not be positioned any better for hosting the U.S. Open next year at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington, the first time the tournament will be held in the Pacific Northwest. Following a site visit this week, Davis said Friday that the organization couldn’t be more pleased with the current state of the course. Davis said the course will play to par 70 and somewhere between 7,200 and 7,600 yards. He also still plans on alternating holes 1 and 18 as par 4s and 5s during the tournament. Tickets for the tournament went on sale earlier this month and championship director Danny Sink said a couple of days are almost sold out. The USGA is expecting 30,000 spectators each day. – AP
