Police say man accidentally shot friend dead at Orondo campground

ORONDO, Wash. – A Wenatchee man is dead and his longtime friend was arrested following a fatal shooting at an Orondo campground early Saturday.

Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal identified the dead man as Eduardo Lara, 19. Booked into Chelan County Regional Justice Center on a charge of first-degree manslaughter is Jaimie Alberto Calderon-Garcia, 21.

Gjesdal said deputies were called to a report of gunfire at Orondo County Park just after 12:30 a.m., where they found a man with an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to a Wenatchee hospital, where he died in surgery.

Gjesdal said the suspect told investigators he pulled out a .357 Magnum revolver and was “showing off.”

“When he lowered the gun, it accidentally went off and struck Lara,” he said.
