Obituary: Jones, William H. “Bill”
Age 89
Bill enjoyed growing up in Natchitoches with his three sisters where they spent most of their time outdoors including swimming in the river that ran by their house.
Losing his father at the age of 12, Bill took on the roll of man of the house always willing to help his mother and sisters.
After graduating high school, Bill joined the Army in 1943 and was trained to use the Browning Automatic Rifle (B.A.R.).
He was part of the D-Day invasion at Omaha Beach and later received a Purple Heart at the Battle of the Bulge.
Bill was very honored to have served his country.
Bill married Rita Williford on June 15, 1952 in Wichita, KS., and later moved to San Diego, CA., where together they raised two sons and one daughter.
Bill worked as an electrician for most of his life working on missile silos and other government projects.
In 2001, Bill and Rita moved to Spokane, WA., where he resided the remainder of his life.
Bill was such a kind, giving, loving man who laughed often and made friends everywhere he went.
He always had a smile on his face and cared more about others than himself.
He enjoyed working in the yard, sports, fixing things and “real good” food.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marie and Pat; son-in-law, Todd Hemingway and Rita, his wife of 51 years.
He is survived by his children, Scott (Jennifer) Jones, Meris (Mike) Buske, Kevin (Kris) Jones; his sister, Mayme; brother-in-law, Harry (Mary Ellen) Williford; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews who loved him dearly.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, 115 N. Raymond Rd, Spokane Valley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Spokane Valley United Methodist Church.
