Obituary: Granger, Martin James “Jim”
Age 83
He was born on February 9, 1931 to John and Mae Granger in Spalding, Nebraska.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1948, following high school.
He served four years in the Korean War aboard the ship U.S.S.
Salisbury Sound AV-13 as a radioman.
After serving his country, he met his wife, Kathy, on a blind date.
They married on February 5, 1955 in Seattle, WA.
They recently celebrated their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary.
In 1963, Jim graduated from Seattle University with a B.C.S.
degree.
Jim was an outstanding sales representative for Dr. Scholl for over twenty five years.
He received numerous awards for exemplary service.
He was also a lifetime member of the V.F.W.
Jim loved to go camping, fishing, and boating.
He also enjoyed watching the Gonzaga University men’s basketball games.
After retirement, he and his wife, Kathy, went to Yuma, Arizona as snowbirds for four years.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; five children, Karen Dempsey, Burbank, WA, Gary (Laura)Granger, Modesto, CA, Susan (Don) Phillips, Spanaway, WA, Wayne Granger, Spokane, WA, Gregory (Angie) Granger, Spokane, WA; brother, Milton Granger and sister, Diane Granger, Wenatchee, WA; eight grandchildren, Steven Granger, CA, Sean Granger, OR, Richard Dempsey, Pasco, WA, Randy Dempsey, Burbank, WA, Neal Schuck, Burbank, WA, Nicole Phillips, Spanaway, WA, Nina Phillips, Spanaway, WA, Rachel Granger, Modesto, CA; two great grandsons, Jack Ryan Granger, WA, and Carson Granger, OR.
He is preceded in death by his five sisters and three brothers.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 304 South Adams Rd., Spokane Valley, WA at 10:00 AM, Friday, March 7, 2014.
Inurnment will be held at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery, 21702 W. Espanola Rd., Medical Lake, WA at 1:30 PM on the same day.
