Obituary: Kolb, Albert
Age 94
He was born January16, 1920 at Date, S.D.
along with his twin brother Arthur.
He was raised and went to school there and graduated from Bison High School in 1939.
He worked for several ranchers.
He enlisted in the Navy in March, 1942.
He was assigned to the USS Naval for 12 months and then transferred to the new destroyer the USS Twining for 22 months.
During this time on the two ships he earned eight battle stars.
His tour of duty stretched from Guadacanel to the Japanese homeland.
He was honorably discharged in November, 1945.
He returned to Bison where he and brother, Lee bought the Bison Cafe’.
In 1947, he married Berniece Baker and to this union a daughter, Linda, was born in 1948.
In 1952, he sold the cafe’ and built a home, trailer court and plumbing business in Bison.
In 1953, a son Leslie, was born.
In 1956, he had plans to go to Alaska, on the way stopped off at his sister’s Emma Lutz place and was talked into staying.
He went into plumbing there, until an opening at the U.S.Rocky Mountain Lab needed a steam fitter, he accepted the job and stayed until he retired.
In 1994, they moved to Davenort, WA.
Where they bought a couple of lots, put a new home and garage on it, and puttered in his shop making all kinds of wood crafts and selling them.
He was really a jack of all trades, he built the first post peeling machine in the Bitterroot and built their own big three bedroom home in Hamilton, MT.
Every Fall he couldn’t wait to go hunting.
In the spring of 2007, they moved to Spokane, WA, to be close to their children.
He and Berniece loved to dance, play cards and if there was a cribbage board around he was playing or teaching his grandson, nieces and nephews to play.
He is survived by his wife Berniece, daughter Linda McDowell (Mike) and son Leslie Kolb (Lori) and grandson Troy Anglin and step granddaughter Michelle Lobdell (Rocky) and step great-grandchildren Jordon and Jacob Levitch, all of Spokane, WA; brother, Walter Kolb (Jeannette) and sister Edna Martin both from Spearfish, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Reinhold, Theodore, Leopold, Arthur, Alvin and Herbert Kolb: four sisters, Martha Sperle, Alma Keil, Emma Lutz and Helen Sperle.
He is a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Spokane, WA.
There will be a Memorial Service held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 2:00pm at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 7307 N. Nevada St., Spokane, WA 99208.
