Obituary: Nord, Warren Jay

NORD, Warren Jay 86 Years of Life A very longtime resident of Clayton, Washington, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2014.

Warren is the dear husband of Lorraine Marie Nord (married forty-four years) and the loving father and father-in-law of Tracy Nord Hoffman and Cory and Amy Nord.

He enjoyed five grandchildren: Jason Hoffman, Alex Hoffman, Maygen Nord, Colesen Nord, and Catherine Hoffman.

His two nieces are Vicky (Alan) Pyles and Nancy (Brian) Berger.

There are numerous cousins and other relatives.

Born in 1927 at Aberdeen, Brown County, South Dakota, Warren’s family moved from Fairburn, South Dakota, to Clayton, Washington, in 1938 where Warren attended the Clayton Grade School and Deer Park High School.

During his senior year in 1945, Warren joined the United States Marines serving during World WarII in the South Pacific and was on the general’s staff in communications while stationed in Tientsim, China, Guam and El Toro Marine Air Corps Base in Southern California, until 1949.

Upon returning after WWII, Warren attended Spokane Community College studying automotive vehicle mechanics.

He and Bob Smith co-owned “The Globe Garage” in Spokane until they lost the lease in June of 1977.

In 1978, Warren gained employment with the State of Washington Department of Transportation maintaining Highway 395 from Loon Lake to Deer Park, retiring in October of 1992.

Warren and Lorraine maintained their ranch at Clayton.

He was a volunteer fireman for the Clayton Fire Department for many years, was a member of the V.F.W.

in Hillyard, the Clayton-Deer Park Historical Society, and a former member of the Clayton Grange.

In 2003, Warren participated in the Deer Park High School graduation exercise receiving his “Honorary High School Diploma.”

In November 2012, Warren and Cory were on the N.W.

Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. to see the war memorials.

It was great for Cory to be able to travel with his father and experience that great part of American history.

Warren’s family suggests memorial contributions to I.N.W.

Funeral Services honoring Mr. Nord will be at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 5, 2014 in Spokane at the Sunset Chapel on the grounds of Fairmount Memorial Park with military honors by the United States Marine Honor Guard.

Following the interment at Fairmount a potluck reception will be held at the Clayton Grange starting at 4:00 P.M. LAUER FUNERAL HOME in Deer Park, Washington
