Obituary: Read, Lester E.

READ, Lester E. Lester E. Read, age 92, of Spokane Valley passed away on February 13, 2014.

Les was born the second of two sons to Gertrude and Allan Read in Randolf, Mass.

He grew up on the east coast and at the age of 20 joined the Army Air Corps and honorably served his country in WWII.

Soon after his discharge from the service he headed out west, where he ended up living from then on.

He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation for two years and went to work as an electrician for BPA in 1950 until he retired in 1976 at the age of 55.

In 1952 he was married to the love of his life Muriel (Stamey), until her passing in 2011.

She had two children Mayo and Dean.

Les and Muriel went on to have two more children, Sam (Russel) and Helen.

Les had a passion for life and loved to travel and made many friends all across the United States.

He adored his grandchildren and had a very close bond with some of them.

He had many hobbies throughout the years, motorcycle riding being one of his favorites.

He and Muriel were snowbirds for 20 plus years to Yuma, AZ.

He was blessed to have had a long and happy retirement.

In 2008 they moved to Evergreen Fountains, where once again he made many more new and wonderful friends.

Les ls survived by his children and spouses, Sam Read (Jeanie), Helen Cushman (John), stepchildren Mayo Sayrs (Larry) and Dean Cross (Bonnie); nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A Military Honors Ceremony will be held March 7, 2014 at the Medical Lake Veterans Cemetery at 2;15 pm.

On March 8, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at Evergreen Fountains Senior Living Community at 2:00 pm.
