Sasquatch roll into semifinals

KENNEWICK – Kwinn Hanson scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Community Colleges of Spokane men opened play in the NWAACC Championships with a 69-61 win over Whatcom on Saturday at the Toyota Center.

Hanson made 9 of 12 shots, 7 of 10 free throws, and added three assists, two steals and two blocks.

Tied at 51 with a little more than 10 minutes to play, CCS (18-11) went on a 16-2 run to take control. Jack Nygaard’s 3-pointer started the run. Nygaard made 7 of 10 from beyond the 3-point line and finished with 23 points.

Kyle Impero led the Orcas (18-7) with 19 points, but he made just 5 of his 25 field-goal attempts. Eric Fongue added 16 points and eight rebounds for Whatcom.

The Orcas will play Clackamas today in a loser-out game.

Clackamas fell to Highline 83-49 in the first round.
