Suspended Washington Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov has been suspended by the NHL for two games for boarding Philadelphia Flyers forward Brayden Schenn. Orlov launched into Schenn during the third period of Sunday’s game and was assessed a major penalty.

Injured Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa will miss two to three weeks after he left Saturday night’s 5-1 victory over Pittsburgh with an upper-body injury. Hossa took a hard hit from Penguins forward Craig Adams during Chicago’s second power play of the first period at Soldier Field.

• Center Joel Embiid will sit out the final two regular-season men’s basketball games for No. 8 Kansas so he can rest a lower back strain that has already caused him to miss a game. Kansas coach Bill Self said Embiid re-aggravated the injury and experts have told the Jayhawks’ staff the best remedy is rest.

Designated The NFL has formally designated New Orleans’ Jimmy Graham as a tight end for the purposes of his franchise tag value, which is set at $7.05 million for next season unless Graham and the Saints subsequently agree on a long-term deal.

• The Redskins placed a franchise tag on three-time Pro Bowl linebacker Brian Orakpo, all but ensuring he will remain with the team next season. The Redskins used the non-exclusive tag, worth about $11.5 million, for 2014.

• The Steelers have designated linebacker Jason Worilds as the team’s transition player for 2014. The transition tag for linebackers is $9.754 million.

• The Browns locked Pro Bowl center Alex Mack into a one-year, $10.039 million contract by designating him as their transition player.

Signed The Tennessee Titans have agreed to a multiyear contract with safety Bernard Pollard that keeps their top tackler off the free-agent market. Pollard started all 16 games last season.

• The San Francisco 49ers and wide receiver Anquan Boldin agreed to a two-year, $12 million contract with $9 million guaranteed.The move locks up one of the team’s top offseason priorities.

• Pro Bowl cornerback Brent Grimes cashed in on his career comeback with the Miami Dolphins. Grimes signed a $32 million, four-year contract to remain with Miami. The deal includes $16 million guaranteed.

Declined The Buffalo Bills have chosen not to use the franchise tag to retain safety Jairus Byrd, a decision that allows the three-time Pro Bowl player to become an unrestricted free agent.
