Stevens County students sent to hospital after bus crash

Mary Walker School District says 6 to 8 students taken to Sacred Heart

From staff reports
Eight Stevens County students injured in a bus slide off accident early Wednesday are being evaluated for non-life-threatening injuries in Spokane, according to the Mary Walker School District. All parents of the injured children have been contacted personally by the district. Twenty-seven students were aboard school bus No. 6 when it slid onto its side south of Springdale. All passengers were evaluated by medical personnel at the site of the slide off and were either loaded onto another bus or released to parents or guardians, the district said. The roadway was described as a “sheet of ice” by law enforcement on-scene during the incident, which occurred around 8 a.m. Eight passengers were taken to the Pediatric Emergency Room at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. They are being treated for “bumps and bruises,” according to a news release from the school district. Nurses and counselors are available for those students who may have experienced trauma from the incident, the district said.
