Died Orthopedic surgeon Frank Jobe, who was the first to perform an elbow procedure that became known as Tommy John surgery and saved the careers of countless major league pitchers, died Thursday of an undisclosed illness. He was 88.

Jailed IBF light middleweight champion Carlos Molina was jailed Tuesday in Las Vegas. Molina (22-5-2) is facing a federal immigration hold and a warrant accusing him of failing to register as a sex offender seven years ago in Wisconsin. Molina was scheduled to fight Jermall Charlo (17-0, 13 KOs) on Saturday.

Released The Denver Broncos have released cornerback Champ Bailey after 10 seasons with the team. Bailey, a 12-time Pro Bowler, was scheduled to make around $10 million next season. His 52 interceptions are the most among active cornerbacks.

Announced The Chicago Bears will not be re-signing record-setting return specialist Devin Hester. Hester, who was a three-time Pro Bowl pick in eight seasons with Chicago, holds the NFL record with 19 career return touchdowns.

Extended The Cleveland Browns extended a contract tender to inside linebacker Craig Robertson as an exclusive-rights free agent. Robertson finished last season with 89 tackles and had three sacks and an interception. An exclusive-rights free agent must stay with a team if he’s tendered. He will make $570,000 next season.

Signed Missouri signed football coach Gary Pinkel to a contract extension. The new deal runs through the 2020 season and increases his guaranteed salary to $3.1 million. The 61-year-old Pinkel has a career record of 102-63 in 13 seasons at Missouri.

• The Indianapolis Colts signed former Browns linebacker D’Qwell Jackson. Jackson led the Browns last year with 143 tackles, 1 1/2 sacks, one interception and one fumble recovery.
