Obituary: Falk, Sybil Edith
Age 92
She was born to Henry and Vessie Cole on December 17th, 1921 in Troy, Montana.
She grew up on the ranch with her sisters and brothers…Evelyn, Wilbur, Carl, Bert, Lulu Mae and Floyd.
She graduated from Troy High School in 1940 and married Wm.
H. Falk July 4th, 1941.
Sybil was an outstanding homemaker, cook and seamstress.
Her cookies and pies were always a treat, especially on holidays.
However, her true passion was gardening.
As her husband would say “She has moved mountains of dirt,” which she did!
Their home in Spokane Valley was just the beginning of Sybil’s gardening skills.
People would stop and ask to buy flowers but she would not accept payment and gave them the flowers.
In the early ‘70s, Bill and Sybil became involved with the Spokane Canoe Club as charter members with Bill as the Charter President.
That’s where their adventures really took off and the traveling, camping and canoeing with new friends provided truly wonderful memories.
The Spokane Valley was getting too crowded, so in 1980 they purchased acreage in Chattaroy which was just a big alfalfa field.
But Sybil got busy digging, planting and before their mobile home arrived, she already had a lawn, shrubs AND a fish pond with a rock garden!
Along with making her gardens “magical” she also made it a true wildlife sanctuary.
She took pride in her roses, loved fuchsias and peonies but enjoyed every type of flower.
At age 89 she was still moving those rocks around!
Sybil also enjoyed glass collecting, crocheting, tole painting, “treasure hunting” at yard sales and thrift shops.
She loved westerns but sometimes Bonanza was “too violent”.
Sybil and Bill joined Peaceful Valley Church in the mid 1980s where they made many, many dear friends.
She leaves behind her brother Bert Cole; son Bill Falk of Chattaroy; daughters Mary (Richard) Baysinger of Spokane and Anita (Rick) Smith of Elk; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter as well as numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved Kitty.
Funeral Services honoring Mrs. Falk will be at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, March 13, 2014, at the Peaceful Valley Church on Allen Road in Elk followed with interment in Elk Cemetery #1.
A reception for family and friends will follow the services at church.
