Obituary: Hughes, William Harry “Bill”

Age 92

HUGHES, William Harry “Bill” 06/07/1921-03/03/2014 William “Bill”, Age 92, was born on June 7, 1921 in Colfax, Washington to James W. and Myrtle E. (Redman) Hughes, the fourth of their five children.

He grew up on the family farm in Viola, Idaho.

He graduated from Moscow High School in 1938 and after time in the USAF he attended the University of Idaho.

He worked as a Union carpenter in Moscow and surrounding areas, including various dam construction projects, the Kibbie Dome and many buildings on the campuses of WSU & U of I.

He married Jeanette Pearce in 1948 and fathered five sons: Barry, James (Jim), Lanny, Randy and David.

They divorced in 1966.

He married Grace Lowe in 1967; they adopted a daughter, Billie Sue.

In 1985 he married Mary Coe of Spokane and they were together for the next 26 years, until her death in 2011.

They both enjoyed their meals and friends at the local Golden Corral.

Bill embraced the Coe family as his own.

Throughout his life, Bill enjoyed dancing, pinochle and taking pride in and informing anyone who listened about the many accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary; his son, Barry; his brothers, Charles “Chuck” of Fort Walton Beach, FL and Wendle (and wife, Rosemary) of Moscow; his sister Geneva (and husband, Perry) Farnum of Moscow; and his brother-in-law, Gordon (Lyle) Howell of Viola, ID.

Those surviving him include his sister, Jamie Howell of Medford OR; and sister-in-law Ellen Hughes of FT. Walton Beach, FL; his sons, Jim (and Susan) of Oldtown, ID, Lanny (and Susan) of Nine Mile Falls, WA, Randy of Medford OR, David of Burlington, CO; adopted daughter Billie Sue; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

At his request there will be no funeral, but a memorial service at Viola ID, to be announced at a later date.
