Vandals slip past visiting Kangaroos in WAC finale

 

Christina Salvatore buried a 3-pointer with 28 seconds left in the game and Stacey Barr nailed a pair of free throws with 10 seconds remaining to help the Idaho Vandals (22-8, 15-1 WAC) hold off the Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos (11-18, 7-9), 70-63, in a Western Athletic Conference regular-season finale in Moscow, Idaho, on Saturday.

Barr finished with game highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Alyssa Charlston totaled 20 points and four rebounds in her final regular-season game for the Vandals. Ali Forde, the WAC leader in field-goal percentage, hit 7 of 10 shots and scored 15 with seven rebounds for Idaho.

Idaho earned the WAC’s top seed and will play No. 8 seed Chicago State on Wednesday at noon in the first round of the conference tournament at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

Eastern Washington 68, Weber State 60: Lexie Nelson scored 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting and Hayley Hodgins hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 13 to power the Eagles (16-13, 12-8 Big Sky) to a victory over the Wildcats (7-22, 3-17) in a Big Sky Conference regular-season finale in Ogden, Utah.

Eastern will head to the conference tourney as the No. 4 seed and will play fifth-seeded Idaho State in a quarterfinal game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Grand Forks, N.D.

EWU’s Melissa Williams tallied her fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
