Passed on to his Lord March 13, 2014, age 82, from congestive heart failure.
He was born August 6, 1931, in Logan County, OK, on the family farm.
When Oklahoma, was opened to white settlers in 1889, a small land office was established to record land claims.
Decades later, the Cutlers bought that little building, hauled it ten miles over dirt roads, to attach to their house.
It became the parents’ bedroom, where Al was born.
They did not have electricity or running water.
A few days before Al slipped away, he video-conferenced with his great-grandson…a journey of cultural progress.
Al went to the Logan County Oakridge one-room school for eight grades, graduated from Guthrie High School, then later from Oklahoma State University with a BS in Finance and Marketing.
He was in ROTC in high school, then on active duty with the U.S. Army.
He joined Phillips Petroleum Co., for 30 years, then worked for Wilbur-Ellis Fertilizer Co., then the Nat’l Assn.
of Credit Management.
He was among the first to attain a national Certified Credit Management title.
He enjoyed community service and served on the Board of Directors of The Arc, St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Southside Community Center among several other organizations.
Being an Oklahoma, farm boy, he loved planting, nurturing, growing, then harvesting his gardens.
Golf was always high on his list, along with sailing.
His heart was mostly about gathering his family for camping, reunions, celebrations.
A strong, loving family is his greatest legacy.
Al is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce; and children: James (Ellen), their sons Noah (Joy); and great-grandson, Jaden; and son Ian; Anne; Chris (Julia); Sarah Cutler-Purvis (David) and their daughters Audrey and Abigale.
He is also survived by his sister, Mona (Richard) Simpson of OK; sister-in-law, Billie Cutler of TN; plus several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernie and Jane Cutler; brother, Ivan Leonard; and sister Viola.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, March 21, at 1:00 PM, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 24th and Grand.
