WSU tops USD for series sweep

Washington State scored on a passed ball in the ninth inning and held on to defeat 17th-ranked San Diego 4-3 in nonconference baseball Wednesday.

The win in San Diego completed a sweep by the Cougars (8-9) in the two-game series with the Toreros (14-6).

Cougars Michael Monda, Yale Rosen and Luke Stratman all drove in runs.

Ian Hamilton gave up a run in the bottom of the ninth before getting his sixth save. Kellen Camus (2-0), the third of five WSU pitchers, pitched two shutout innings in picking up the win.

Eastern Washington’s Marissa Borja was named Big Sky Conference golfer of the week after shooting a 36-hole 145 at last week’s Southern Utah Invitational. The Eagles finished sixth.
