Obituary: Lemon, Dorothy M.

Age 71

LEMON, Dorothy M. (Age 71) Dorothy (Dot) Lemon, beloved wife, sister, mother, and grandmother, passed away March 10, 2014.

Dot was born in Seattle on January 7, 1943, to Jack and Dorothy (Cowell) Tillman.

She spent most of her youth (from the age of 4 to the age of 22) in Spokane, WA, where she was raised by her mother and her stepfather, Roy (Mickey) Brown (deceased).

She graduated from North Central High School in 1961.

It was during her high school years that she met her future husband, John N. Lemon.

After graduating, Dot worked as a secretary at the Crescent department store for several years.

She exhibited exceptional typing and shorthand skills.

It was a job she always remembered fondly.

Soon after marrying, John and Dot moved to the Grays Harbor area, where they would live in Aberdeen and Hoquiam for another 42 years.

For the rest of her life, Dot would remain a homemaker.

Seven years ago, Dot and John moved back to Spokane to be closer to their son and grandchildren.

Dot had a fun and lively nature.

She was known for her humor and for being quick to laugh.

She was an award-winning rose grower, specializing in miniature roses and tea roses.

She was a member of the Grays Harbor and Spokane Rose Societies.

She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

In her spare time, Dot enjoyed singing, gardening, movies, comedy, music, water aerobics, doting on her dogs and cats, playing cards and board games, and engaging in lively banter and debate with her family and friends.

Dot is survived by her husband of 52 years, John N. Lemon; her son, John M. (Pamela) Lemon; and her two granddaughters, Freya and Lydia Lemon.

Dot was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Arnold G. (Larry) Tillman.

She is survived by the following siblings: Charles (April) Tillman, Mary (Howard) Deerheim, Michael (Theresa) Brown, Robert (Margaret) Tillman, Betty (Chuck, deceased) Kling, Jack Tillman, James Tillman, and Cindy (Tillman) Murray, numerous nephews and nieces, and her dog-daughter, Nadine.

Her family will host a private celebration of Dot’s life on Saturday, March 29, at 1:00 p.m.
