Obituary: Wilson, Robert Manton, Iii

Age 66

WILSON, Robert Manton III (Age 66) Passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014, after a short courageous fight with cancer.

He was born in Richmond, VA, to Dr. Robert Manton Wilson, Jr. and Ellen Gray Wilson, and moved to Spokane with his family in 1959.

He graduated from Mead High School in 1966 and studied biochemistry in the northwest before earning a master’s degree in wildlife biology from New Mexico State University.

Bob worked as a fish biologist for the state of New Mexico until retiring and returning to Spokane in 1999.

He was a conservationist, an avid birder, a Bronze Life Master in duplicate bridge, an Army Veteran, and he loved great music and good wine.

His carefully cultivated gruff exterior masked a brave and loyal heart.

Bob’s wry sense of humor stayed sharp until the end.

He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Ellen Wilson Kohjima of Tacoma and Elizabeth Stuart Wilson of Cheney and their families; and a host of cousins, aunts and uncles across the country.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane, 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Environmental Defense Fund or Spokane Humane Society.
