Age 87

DISCH, Sibyl J.S.

(Age 87) Sibyl Disch passed away in Spokane, WA., on March 19, 2014 at the age of 87.

Sibyl was born on April 17, 1926 in Wisconsin to Ray and Vera Marshall.

She spent her youth in Wisconsin and graduated from Whitewater High School.

She went on to graduate from Whitewater Teachers College where she met her future husband, Philip A Disch.

After graduation Sibyl spent several years teaching grade school in Beloit, Wisconsin.

She married Phil in 1949 and moved to California a few years later.

Sibyl spent most of her life raising her daughters and teaching in the San Bernardino area.

She was active in the Catholic Church, League of Women Voters and social justice issues.

She also earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education from California State College at San Bernardino.

Sibyl and Phil moved to Spokane 13 years ago and were active members of the Rockwood Lane Retirement Community and Sacred Heart Parish.

She began a sing along group at Rockwood Lane that is still active today.

Sibyl enjoyed working with students that had special needs and challenges.

She loved singing, reading and writing poetry.

She was known for her intelligence, compassion, generosity and faith.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother sister and friend who spent her last years taking care of others around her especially her husband, Phil.

She is survived by her husband Phil; daughters, Susan and Michelle; grandchildren: Sarah, Allison, Cameron, Emily and Cassidy; siblings: Lois and David; and five great-grandchildren.

Sibyl was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Jack; sister Beulah; and her daughter Mary Jo.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 221 E. Rockwood Blvd., in Spokane, WA., with a reception immediately following at Rockwood Lane.

Sibyl will be forever in our hearts.
