One dead in rollover crash near Newport

From staff and wire reports
NEWPORT, Wash. — A 40-year-old Spokane woman has been killed in a rollover crash on Highway 211 about 12 miles north of Newport. Barbara Pierre died in the crash that sent the 2003 Pontiac Grand Am she was driving into a creek north of Davis Lake around 3 a.m. Friday, according to the Washington State Patrol. The vehicle had been headed south when the driver lost control. It rolled off the east side of the road into the creek. A passenger, 49-year-old Edward Scott of Battle Ground, was sent to Newport Hospital with injuries. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, the WSP said. Pierre was wearing a seatbelt, but it is unknown whether Scott was, the WSP said.
