Investigation into car prowlings ongoing

Liberty Lake police believe that the nearly dozen vehicle prowls reported March 20 were related.

A suspicious vehicle was located on Harvard Road at 4 a.m. that day. The man and the woman inside escaped, but police recovered some of the items stolen that day, said Police Chief Brian Asmus.

The vehicle prowls were reported in clusters in the 21000 block of East Bitterroot Lane, the 22000 block of East Country Vista Drive and the 1800 block of North Pepper Lane. There was also vehicle prowl in the 23000 block of East Broadway Avenue and a garage burglary in the 23000 block of East Settler Drive.

The items reported missing includes GPS units, concert tickets, passports, $10,000 in camera equipment, and $4,000 in jewelry.

The investigation is ongoing. Police said they believe they know the identity of the suspects and are searching for them.

Other incidents reports from March 17-24

March 18: A store employee in the 1200 block of North Barker Road reported that someone had stolen 40 to 50 cigarette lighters. The officer recognized the man pictured on store surveillance video and he was arrested later that day.

March 19: A resident in the 1900 block of North Aladdin Road reported having his car stolen when he left it running in the driveway. He was also missing an iPod that was in the car.

Someone in the 22000 block of East Country Vista Drive reported three tires missing from a storage unit.

March 20: A stolen vehicle was found in the 2000 block of North Cavalier Road.

March 21: A woman was arrested for theft after attempting to leave Safeway with $257 worth of items. She told police that she forgot to pay.

A resident in the 25000 block of Hawkstone Loop reported that his ex-wife had recently opened several accounts in his name.

March 22: A 17-year-old and a 16-year-old were arrested after it was reported that they had stolen a bottle of liquor from Albertsons.

Sunday: A hit and run accident was reported at Appleway Avenue and Signal Road. The vehicle that fled left behind its front bumper and license plate. The driver was located and arrested Monday.

Arrests: Police made three arrests for driving with a suspended license.

Citations: Officers handed out 10 citations for speeding. Additional citations were given for expired vehicle registration, failure to show proof of liability insurance, failure to wear a safety belt, malicious mischief, obstructing a law enforcement officer and making a false statement to police.
