Broncos sweeten contract, keep Rice

Rice

Boise State men’s basketball coach Leon Rice will not be Washington State’s next coach.

Rice will receive a $100,000 salary increase as past of an agreement to revisions on his current contract, BSU athletic director Mark Coyle announced on Saturday.

Rice was a candidate for the vacant position at Washington State and interviewed with the Cougars early last week.

With the increase his salary for the 2015 fiscal year will be $596,573. A revision was also made to the automatic extension of his contract, adding one year every time the Broncos win 18 games or make the NCAA tournament.

“I am really excited for the future of Bronco basketball,” Rice said. “There has been a great commitment to grow this program. There’s a commitment from our administration, our student-athletes and our fans. That’s what has me looking forward to continuing to build what we have here at Boise State.”

The agreement is subject to the approval of the Idaho State Board of Education.
