“Good Morning America” personality Josh Elliott has told ABC that he accepted an offer to go to NBC Sports, and he has been quickly replaced on the morning show by Amy Robach.
ABC News President Ben Sherwood said Elliott told them he was leaving Sunday. Elliott was the news anchor for the top-rated morning broadcast, part of a tight-knit team with Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos and Lara Spencer.
He was the second defection at “GMA” in the past few months, with weather forecaster Sam Champion leaving for a job at The Weather Channel. Robach, who used to work at NBC News, is familiar to the ABC audience as a fill-in for Roberts when she was ill.
Reality star shot in funeral procession
Reality TV star Benzino was driving in a funeral procession for his mother on a Massachusetts highway Saturday when he was shot and injured by his nephew, who was riding in another car, according to authorities and the hip-hop magazine owned by Benzino.
Benzino, whose real name is Raymond Scott, is a cast member of the VH1 reality show “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta,” which is known for its over-the-top drama and fights, and is CEO of Hip-Hop Weekly. The magazine confirmed on its website Saturday night that Benzino had been shot.
The 48-year-old Benzino was traveling on state Route 3 south of Boston just before noon when 36-year-old Gai Scott pulled alongside in a Bentley and fired several shots into a red SUV driven by Benzino, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement. Officials said there had been growing tension between the two.
Benzino, of Mansfield, Mass., got out of the SUV after being struck and was taken to the Duxbury Police Department and then transferred to a hospital.
Hip-Hop Weekly said he was shot in an arm, and his back was grazed by a bullet. The website posted photos of Benzino awake in his hospital bed, including a photo showing his left arm bandaged and in a sling.
He was listed in good condition, a spokeswoman for South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth said Sunday morning.
Benzino was heading to a church in Plymouth at the time of the shooting, the District Attorney’s Office said. A funeral Mass for his mother, Mary A. Scott, was scheduled for St. Peter’s Church in Plymouth on Saturday, according to an obituary posted online.
Police responding to the scene found the red SUV in the middle of Route 3 with bullet holes and a reddish brown substance believe to be blood inside the vehicle. Officials said shell casings and projectiles also were found at the scene.
