Spokane Valley man arrested for pointing gun at woman, son

A 24-year-old Spokane Valley man was arrested late Friday after pointing a shotgun at a woman and her son who he thought were friends attempting to drive away from a party while drunk. Robert Weathermon was booked into Spokane County Jail late Friday facing a charge of attempted first-degree assault with a firearm. He was released without bail. Witnesses said Weathermon attended a party in the 10800 block of East Fairview Avenue on Friday night. At around 8:30 p.m. partygoers who had been drinking left the party to drive elsewhere, Weathermon told police. He grabbed a shotgun that belonged to the party’s host and chased after the people leaving in an attempt to “scare them,” according to court documents. Instead, he allegedly pointed the weapon at a mother and her six-year-old son, telling her to get out of the car, the woman told police. She said Weathermon ran off shortly after. When police arrived at the residence to arrest Weathermon, he told them they were there “because I pointed a gun at the wrong person,” according to court documents. Weathermon said he could not see who was inside the car after he pointed the shotgun and told officers he’d been drinking. Weathermon has no listed criminal history.
