In brief: 102 in Egypt sentenced to 10 years in prison

CAIRO – A criminal court on Saturday sentenced more than 100 alleged supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood to 10 years in prison.

The 102 sentenced in one fell swoop on Saturday were convicted of rioting and weapons possession.

Two notorious recent cases – one last month and one in March – resulted in more than 1,200 defendants being sentenced en masse to death by a judge in Minya, south of Cairo.

3 killed in Kenya grenade blasts

Three people were killed and scores hurt Saturday when two explosions rocked the Indian Ocean port city of Mombasa, Kenya’s Interior Ministry said.

All the casualties occurred when a grenade was thrown into a crowd in central Mombasa, it said.

A second blast occurred near Nyali Beach in the northern part of Kenya’s second-largest city but no casualties occurred, it said.

No arrests in huge marijuana bust

MEXICO CITY – Mexico’s attorney general said investigators have seized 44 tons of marijuana in Tijuana, across the border from San Diego, California.

A statement from the office says that nearly 4,000 packets of drugs were found Thursday in the Granjas Familiares del Matamoros neighborhood based on a federal warrant. Mexican military and Tijuana police conducted the raid.

There were no arrests.
