Jack Bauer returns to action in Monday’s ‘24: Live Another Day’

Chuck Barney Mcclatchy-Tribune

Don’t miss

“24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY”: Jack’s back! Four years after receiving his cancellation notice, tightly coiled action hero Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) returns for another round of pulse-pounding, nail-biting TV comfort food. This time, it’s a 12-hour “event” series that has the former federal agent resurfacing in London to put the beat-down on evildoers who want to kill the visiting U.S. president (William Devane). Looks like it’s time to restart the clock. 8 p.m. Monday, Fox.

Other bets

SUNDAY: In a very special 550th episode (that’s no typo), characters from “The Simpsons” are drastically altered to look like plastic residents of a Lego world. So, what, did the artists guzzle too much Duff Beer? (8 p.m., Fox).

MONDAY: “A Fragile Trust: Plagiarism, Power and Jayson Blair at The New York Times” is the latest installment of the “Independent Lens” series. It’s a portrait of the most infamous serial plagiarist of our time and a look back at the scandal that rocked not only the Times, but all of journalism. 10 p.m., KSPS and KCDT.

MONDAY: In the creepy season finale of “Bates Motel,” Norman (Freddie Highmore) is haunted by his past. Hate to tell the poor boy, but his future is also pretty bloody awful. 7 and 10 p.m., A&E.

MONDAY: Louis C.K., the man GQ magazine recently declared to be “America’s undisputed king of comedy,” returns with back-to-back new episodes of “Louie.” Lots of laughs – and some raunchiness – are guaranteed. 10 p.m., FX.

TUESDAY: In the season finale of “New Girl,” Jess and Nick (Zooey Deschanel and Jake Johnson) decide to go ahead and take a cruise they booked before their breakup, and invite the gang along. Can you say, “Big mistake?” 9 p.m., Fox.

WEDNESDAY: “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” wraps up another killer season with an episode that has Russell (Ted Danson) and his team look into a crime with a connection to a mob heist that occurred 25 years earlier. Treat Williams guest stars. 10 p.m., CBS.

THURSDAY: Can you hear the sound of hysteria? “Broadway Idiot: Green Day on Broadway” is a documentary that follows rocker Billie Joe Armstrong as he works with collaborators to transform the band’s landmark album, “American Idiot,” into a raucous Broadway musical. 8 p.m., Showtime.

THURSDAY: We expect a laugh riot to break out during the American Comedy Awards. It’s a celebration of the funniest folks in stand-up, television and films, as decided by fan voting. 9 p.m., NBC.

FRIDAY: We smell a big cliffhanger in the season finale of “Blue Bloods.” Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) disobeys orders and investigates a case he was told was off-limits. The “shocking” information he uncovers could have serious repercussions within the department. 10 p.m., CBS.

SATURDAY: Time to catch up with the walking undead as Season 2 of “In the Flesh” kicks off. Unfortunately, Kieren (Luke Newberry) has to deal with more hatred aimed at so-called “rotters.” 7 and 10 p.m., BBC America.
