Edgars Kulda has winner as Oil Kings top Winterhawks
EDMONTON – Edgars Kulda’s goal with 6:47 left in the third period was the winner as the Edmonton Oil Kings rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to remain in the running in the Western Hockey League final, defeating the defending-champion Portland Winterhawks 3-2 on Tuesday.
Edmonton took their first lead of the entire series with just under seven minutes left in the third as Mitch Moroz sent a puck in front and Kulda was able to redirect it into the net to put the Oil Kings up 3-2.
Henrik Samuelsson and Luke Bertolucci also scored for the Oil Kings, who are now 9-0 on home ice in the playoffs to cut Portland’s series lead to 2-1.
The Winterhawks suffered just their fourth loss in the last 46 games.
