Spokane Shock quarterback Erik Meyer had surgery Tuesday to repair a fractured collarbone, team officials confirmed.

Meyer was injured in the second quarter of Spokane’s 70-21 road win over the L.A. Kiss on Sunday. Wide receiver Rashaad Carter, who played quarterback in high school, replaced Meyer and accounted for six touchdowns, two passing and four rushing. He was named playmaker of the week in the AFL.

No. 2 quarterback Jarrett Brown was placed on injured reserve last week. Teams are only allowed to activate one player from IR after week 9.

Meyer is expected to be sidelined for at least six weeks. The former Eastern Washington Eagle has 32 touchdown passes and just five interceptions. Meyer, who also has 13 rushing TDs, was MVP of the Arena Football League last season.

Spokane is in the market for a quarterback but didn’t make a transaction Monday or Tuesday.

The timing of Meyer’s injury is tough for the Shock on a couple of fronts. Spokane faces a quick turnaround before Friday’s home game with Pittsburgh and there are very few proven AFL quarterbacks looking for work. Portland’s Kyle Rowley, Tampa Bay’s Randy Hippeard and Orlando’s Jason Boltus went down with injuries before Meyer’s injury so those teams had a head start identifying potential replacements.
