Spokane Junior Livestock Show The 79th annual Spokane Junior Livestock Show continues through Sunday and offers visitors the chance to learn about farming and ranching, visit booths with hands-on exhibits, and watch youth from the area showcase their steers, goats, pigs and lambs. On Different Tracks: Race, Class and Education Join Humanities Washington for its next Think & Drink event. This event will bring community members together for an open discussion on the difficult subjects of race, class and education. This discussion will be led by Raymond Reyes and moderated by Shann Ray. Reyes is the associate academic vice president and chief diversity officer at Gonzaga University, and formerly served as the administrative director for the Coeur d’Alene Tribe. Spokane in the Great Depression You know that the Great Depression hit the country hard, but what about Spokane? Jim Kershner, historian and former Spokesman-Review staff writer, offers some insight into the Lilac City during the 1930s, painting a picture of bank failures, local WPA and CCC projects, as well as the Grand Coulee Dam projects, unemployed workers, and the Spokane Art Center, a bright spot in a dark time, that provided work for artists and art lessons for thousands.
