CdA girls, LC boys region champs

Kaitlyn Gunnerson won both hurdles events Saturday and the Coeur d’Alene girls won the 5A Region I track and field title in Lewiston.

It was the Vikings’ fourth straight regional title. They also won all three relays.

The Lewiston girls were second, followed by Lake City and Post Falls.

Lake City easily won the boys title. Chris Baker (100 and 200) and Kyler Little (1,600 and 3,200) were double-event winners for the Timberwolves.

The top three individuals and top two relay teams claimed state spots.

The Sandpoint boys and Moscow girls claimed the 4A titles. Sandpoint’s Grant Kennaly won the high jump and pole vault and Nathan Schwartz won both hurdles events.

Moscow’s girls were led by Georgia Filler and Joelle Stephens. Filler won both hurdles events. Stephens won the 100 meters and was a part of the winning 400 and 800 relay teams.

The top two individuals and winning relay team are bound for state.

• St. Maries’ Josh Dittman (200), Luke Feasline (shot put), Logan Feasline (discus) and Jacob Greer (high jump) all won individual titles at the 2A Region I meet in Harrison.

Orofino won the boys title, followed by Grangeville, St. Maries and Coeur d’Alene Charter. Grangeville won the girls 2A title. Logos was the boys 1A champion. Troy won the girls 1A title.

Baseball

Lakeland ace Kris Jackson pitched the Hawks over Moscow 3-1 in the 4A Region I title game in Rathdrum. With the win, Lakeland secured a spot in the state tournament, which will be held May 15-17 at Rodeo Park in Nampa. The Bears’ saw their season come to a close.

Jackson, who had three hits and four RBIs in Lakeland’s 12-3 district tournament win over the Bears on Tuesday, allowed just one hit – a fifth-inning double to Chad Roberston.

• Timberlake blanked Bonners Ferry 10-0 in the 3A District I title game at Spirit Lake.

The win gave the Tigers a berth to the state tournament. The Badgers were eliminated.

Timberlake will open the state tournament Thursday against Snake River at Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Oregon.
