Obituary: Stoner, Carol June

Age 73

STONER, Carol June Carol June Stoner, long time Colfax resident, passed away at her home on Thursday, May 8, 2014.

She was 73.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, May 13th at 1:00 pm at the Colfax Ward - Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery.

Viewing will be in the Relief Society room for one hour prior to services.

Carol was born September 6, 1940 in Preston, Idaho, to Raymond and Pearl (Larsen) Geisler.

One of nine children in her family, she grew up and attended school in Boise, Idaho.

Following her high school graduation, Carol attended junior college briefly and then began work as a secretary.

During this time, she met Harry Stoner of St. John, Washington, who was attending Boise Junior College on a basketball scholarship.

They became acquainted through mutual friends and eventually married March 25, 1961 in Boise.

They lived in St. John for a short while and Carol worked at the Cold Storage Market.

Harry enlisted in the U.S. Army and the young couple lived in California and Washington before his transfer to Wiesbaden AFB in Germany.

With their family started, Carol kept busy as a homemaker and mother.

Harry finished his military career with a three year tour in Hawaii and in 1969 they returned to the Northwest and settled in Spokane.

Harry was selling insurance and Carol’s responsibilities as a mother continued to expand, eventually including nine children.

They moved to Colfax in 1978.

Their oldest child graduated from Colfax High School in 1980 and the last to finish was in 2001.

She was so proud of each of them.

Carol worked in the office at Wheatland Express in Pullman and also drove bus some of the time.

She was an active member of the LDS Church and did extensive volunteer work with her church.

She was an accomplished pianist and played the church organ for over thirty years.

She loved to cook and bake.

Carol was a talented seamstress and also liked to crochet.

She was an avid reader and loved the challenge of a good crossword puzzle.

Most of all though - Carol loved kids and was truly blessed with all of her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years Harry at their Colfax home; eight children, Sheli (Matt) Carroll of Troy, ID, Ray (Krys) Stoner, Spokane, Susan (Jesse) Martin, Colfax, James (Tera) Stoner, also of Troy, Pam (Dana) Meserve of Endicott, David Stoner, Colfax, Robert (Jessica) Stoner of Rota, Spain and Jeff Stoner, Colfax; 27 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She also leaves two sisters, LaRae Geisler of The Dalles, OR., and Merylyn Newman of Boise, ID; and a brother, Al Geisler of Twin Lake, MI; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula in 1982; a grandson, Lonny; her parents; three brothers and two sisters.

The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Colfax Fire Department.
