Obituary: Manning, Sherry Sharlene

Age 63

MANNING, Sherry Sharlene Passed away peacefully in her home in Kennewick, WA, at the age of 63, on Thursday, May 8, 2014.

She was born in Grangeville, Idaho July 7, 1950 to Andy and Lavon Gortsema.

Sherry had 3 brothers Robert, Marvin and Gary.

The family moved from Grangeville to Sunnyside, WA so her father could work with his brother but eventually settled in Fairfield, WA.

She graduated from Liberty High School in 1968 and went on to beauty school becoming a hair dresser.

She married Greg DeJuan, the father of her children Terry and Tamie, in June of 1969 and later divorced.

Sherry met the love of her life, Melvin LeRoy Manning, on a blind date to a baseball game in Spokane, WA in 1979; they married September of 1985.

That same year the family moved from Spokane to Kennewick for Roy’s work with Burlington Northern Railroad.

Sherry was a first class homemaker and always made sure that her family was taken care of and had anything they needed before herself.

Sherry loved her family and friends and held everyone close to her heart.

She loved to cook and bake for them all and was known for her world famous peanut butter pie.

At Christmas time she would fire up the oven far in advance to starting turning out all of her treats for the holidays.

Watching the NBA, but particularly the Chicago Bulls, and taking care of the flower beds around the home were just a couple of her pastimes.

The one thing that she loved doing more than any other was being Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they were always so excited to be with her.

Sherry is survived by her son Terry DeJuan (JaiLeene); granddaughter Talya DeJuan; daughter Tamie Norwood (Calvin); granddaughter Desiree; great-grandsons Camryn and Brenden; father Andrew Gortsema, brothers Marvin and Gary Gortsema; mother-in-law Vivian Manning; sister-in-law Martha Accord; brother-in-law Max Manning; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Sherry was preceded by her mother Lavon Gortsema, husband LeRoy Manning, granddaughters GracieAnn, Eliza, and Saidie DeJuan, brother Robert Gortsema and father-in-law George Manning.

Sherry was a loving Wife, Mom, and Nana.

Graveside services will be Friday, May 16th, at 11:00 a.m., at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 1401 S. Union St., Kennewick.
