Police: Impaired teen driver strikes patrol vehicle overnight

An 18-year-old woman was arrested overnight after the car she was driving struck the back of a Spokane police patrol vehicle and another car at the intersection of North Division Street and Wellesley Avenue. Savannah L. Ashby was booked into Spokane County Jail after 2 a.m. Tuesday morning facing charges of driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance. A search of Ashby’s car yielded methamphetamine, according to police. No injuries were reported in the collision. According to police, the two vehicles struck were waiting for the light to turn green at the intersection near the NorthTown Mall when they were rear-ended by Ashby. All vehicles were towed from the scene. Ashby is scheduled to make an initial court appearance this afternoon.
