Obituary: Wick, Magne Johan Thormod “Swede”

Age 69

WICK, Magne Johan Thormod “Swede” (Age 69) Magne passed away on May 9, 2014 in Spokane, WA.

He was born on March 17, 1945 to Bjarne and Anna Wick in Vesteralen, Norway.

When Magne was four years old, he came to the U.S. on the SS Stavangnefjovd from Oslo, Norway with his parents and one sister.

He remembers seeing the Statue of Liberty when entering New York.

They traveled by train from New York to Tacoma where he, his sisters and parents resided most of his life.

He graduated from Wilson High School and attended PLU, where he played football, made lifelong friends and became known as “Swede”.

Most of his career was in sales with the last 35 years with Miller Brewing Co. as a Regional Sales Manager.

He finished out his career as the Head Sales Manager with Western Beer Dist.

After his retirement he moved to Spokane to be with his children and grandchildren.

After many years of bachelorhood, Swede met the love of his life and married Judy on August 6, 2005.

They enjoyed traveling to many places, Norway being one of Swede’s favorites.

He enjoyed going to a lot of activities here in Spokane and was very active in his grandkids lives with their sports and other activities.

Papa Swede was the best dad, grandpa and husband.

He is survived by his wife Judy; children Tara (Erik), Tonya, Travis, Callie (Ryan) all of Spokane and Keegan (Rebecca) of Whitefish, MT; grandchildren Hannah, Gracie, Kourtney, Sammi, Carson, Bennett, Addie, Sofia and Kai; sister Sonja (Oskar); nephew and nieces Erik, Heidi and Tammy all of Tacoma, WA; other family members and several relatives in Norway.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Susan.

Visitation will be from 10 am - 5 pm on Friday, May 16, 2014 at Heritage Funeral Home.

A Memorial Service will take place at 11 am on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Indian Trail Church, 9010 N. Indian Trail Rd, Spokane, WA 99208.

Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, Disabled Veterans National Foundation or a charity of your choice.
