The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office has responded to a plane crash at the Coeur d’Alene Airport near Hayden reported shortly after 5 p.m. today. The float plane was piloted by Terry Holman, 73, and his son Brian, 28, was a passenger. Holman was flying in from Felts Field in Spokane, said Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Stu Miller. Holman was banking to line up with the runway when his engine stopped, Miller said. One of the plane’s floats clipped the exhaust pipe of a large piece of heavy equipment. “After he clipped that he just pile drived into the ground,” Miller said. Neither of the two men was injured. Holman said he had been flying since 1960 without a crash, Miller said. The plane was manufactured by Aviat Aircraft in 2006 and is owned by Holman, according to the plane’s registration with the Federal Aviation Administration.
