BOISE – Two Boise men have been indicted on federal hate crime charges for allegedly assaulting a black man.
The U.S. Department of Justice on Wednesday announced that 28-year-old Jonathan Lynn Henery and 30-year-old Beau Edward Hansen were indicted this week.
Their initial court appearance date has not been scheduled.
The indictment alleges that on or about Oct. 20, both men caused bodily injury to a black man based on the victim’s race and color.
Conviction is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
The case was investigated by the FBI and the Boise City Police Department.
This is the first case filed in Idaho under the federal Hate Crime Prevention Act of 2009.
