In brief: Fundraising sale benefits nonprofit Assistants

SOUTH HILL – The local volunteer group Assistants is having a fundraising sale 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at 715 E. 25th Ave.

The sale features indoor and outdoor furniture, children’s clothing, furniture and toys, and athletic equipment.

Proceeds are donated to nonprofit organizations served by Assistants.

Pianist, singer Stone entertains at dinners

SPOKANE VALLEY – Young at Heart Seniors and Northwest Dinner Among Friends will present two dinner events at Puerto Vallarta, 6915 E. Sprague, today and Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m.

The entertainment will be singer and pianist Barbara Stone.

Admission is $20 per person for an all-you-can-eat taco bar and beverages.

WEST CENTRAL – Members of AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps together with Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and North Idaho are leading a community cleanup day 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at A.M. Cannon Park, 1920 W. Maxwell Ave.

Scouts, parents and community members are invited to join in. Please bring gloves. Snacks, water and garbage bags will be provided.

Senior center is site of musical jam session

SOUTH HILL – The Southside Senior Center and the Professional Musicians of the Inland Northwest, Local 105, will host a six-hour jam session from 4 to 10 p.m. Sunday at the Southside Senior Center, 3151 E. 27th Ave.

Dancers, musicians and music enthusiasts are invited to join.

Tickets are $5; musicians and their significant others get in for free. Buffet dinner is $6 and there is a no-host bar.

CPR lessons offered through Fire District 9

NORTH SPOKANE – Spokane Fire District 9 is offering free hands-only CPR lessons (chest compressions without mouth-to-mouth resuscitation) on a drop-in basis on Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. at Station 91, 616 W. Hastings Road.

The same lessons will be available at First District 9’s wellness fair on June 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the district office, 3801 E. Farwell Road.

CCS meetings to help students transfer to EWU

SPOKANE – The Community Colleges of Spokane is hosting two information nights about Destination Eastern, aimed at helping students transition to Eastern Washington University.

The meetings will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday’s meeting is at Spokane Falls Community College, Building 30, 3410 W. Fort George Wright Drive; Wednesday’s is at Spokane Community College, in the Lair-Student Center Sasquatch Room, Building 6, 1810 N. Greene St.
