Republican or Democrat?

Stephen Snedden is running for Idaho state representative, District 1A, as a conservative Republican. Yet his background speaks to an alignment more in tune with Democrats than Republicans.

In 2011 he was the campaign treasurer for Carrie Logan, a registered Democrat, who this year was appointed Sandpoint’s mayor.

In 2010 he was the Bonner County campaign chair for congressional candidate Vaughn Ward, running as a Republican, but who, turns out, was previously a Democrat who had supported Idaho Democratic legislator Jim Hansen and Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tim Kaine.

Motivational quotes on his Twitter account (now inaccessible) were by Corey Booker, the Democratic New Jersey senator tainted by multiple corruption issues.

Snedden’s campaign announcement omitted any reference to him running as a Republican. Ditto to his Facebook page. His campaign website initially didn’t either, although the word has now been added.

This leaves real doubt about voting him into office unless he can satisfactorily explain whether he’s a Republican or a Democrat.
