Area roundup: Idaho men, women claim WAC track titles

The Idaho men’s and women’s track teams are leaving the Western Athletic Conference on top.

The Vandals won seven events Saturday in Orem, Utah, and both the men and women claimed team titles in their last WAC championships before departing for the Big Sky Conference.

Ben Ayesu-Attah won the 400 meters in a career-best 46.62 seconds and was second in the 200 (21.31).

Andrey Levkiv won the discus with a toss of 158 feet, 5 inches.

The Idaho women were led by Hannah Kiser who was named the Women’s Outstanding Track Performer for the second year in a row and became the first woman in WAC history to win the 1,500, 5,000 and 10,000.

Tayler Feinauer won the javelin (155-9) and Ana Pardo edged teammate Adara Winder for the shot put title (48-3 1/2).

• Courtney Bray won the pole vault and Emma Murillo claimed the javelin and the Eastern Washington women took fifth place at the Big Sky Championships in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Bray cleared 13-5 3/4 inches in the pole vault and Murillo reached a personal-best distance of 158-2 in the javelin.

The Eagle men took sixth. Jon Buchanan won the hammer (203-5) and Steven Warner took second place in the 110 hurdles in a school-record time of 14.23.

Baseball

Logan Ice hit an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth to give No. 2 Oregon State (40-9, 21-5) a 1-0 win over No. 5 Washington (38-12-1, 20-6) in the second game of a three-game Pac-12 series in Corvallis, Oregon.

• Tommy Edman, Alex Blandino and Wayne Taylor all hit home runs and Stanford (26-22, 13-13) beat Washington State (22-27, 12-14) 9-4 in a Pac-12 game in Stanford, Calif.

Softball

Hooch Fagaly’s fifth-inning grand slam gave Washington (36-13) a cushion and the Huskies advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals for the seventh straight year with a five-inning 9-0 win over Northwestern (35-18) in Seattle.

• Destinee Chang had two hits and drove in two runs to guide Chemeketa (26-20) past CC Spokane 3-2 at the NWAACC tournament in Portland. The loss ended the Sasquatch’s season.

Katelyn Geyer hit a fourth-inning home run for CCS (31-14).

CCS’ Lindsie Scholwinski, selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All America Team, took the loss after giving up three runs in six innings.

Women’s rowing

Gonzaga took second place behind San Diego in the WCC Championships on Lake Natoma in Gold River, California.

San Diego won all three races with GU second in all three.

GU’s Madison Keaty, Malori McGill and Kara Soucek were all named all-WCC.

Soccer

Adam Talley, Elliot Fauske and Mike Ramos scored as the Spokane Shadow beat WestSound FC 3-0 in Bremerton for its first Evergreen Premier League victory.
