Thieves target Centennial Trail trailheads

Every spring residents flock to the Centennial Trail to walk, jog or bike. And every year the thieves are there to meet them. In the past week there have been 16 vehicle prowls reported at Centennial Trail trailheads in Spokane County. Thieves have hit sites from the Idaho state line to west Spokane County, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. In some of those cases valuables had been left in plain view inside the cars, deputies say. Valuables should be hidden or left at home. The thieves have stolen credit cards, checks, purses, wallets, GPS devices, stereos and other valuables. In some cases only a few checks were stolen from the back of a check book left in a car and the victims did not immediately realize anything was missing, deputies say. Anyone who sees suspicious activity at a trailhead is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
