Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory – Saturday through Monday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. “Remembering a Giant of American Industry: Henry Ford” will include musical entertainment celebrating the Jazz Age each day at noon and 2 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel; pictures and automobile memorabilia, veterans display, aerospace display, antique and classic car display featuring Ford’s finest, Tree of Remembrance and refreshments in the Heritage reception room. American Heroes Weekend – Saturday through Monday, all military personnel, veterans, police officers and firefighters (identification required) receive free admission to Silverwood Theme Park and their immediate family members are half-price general admission when purchasing tickets at Silverwood’s front gate. Saturday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. and Monday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Silverwood Theme Park, 27843 N. Civil War Marine George Murphy Rededication Ceremony – Conducted by the Melvin M. Smith Detachment, Marine Corps League. This ceremony is being held to rededicate the gravesite of George Murphy, who served from 1862 to 1866. After his death, he was nominated for the Medal of Honor, which is awarded for personal acts of valor above and beyond the call of duty. His current tombstone will be replaced by a Civil War-era monument, generously donated by Ron Bohman of Genesis Granite. Held from 2-3 p.m., Fairmount Memorial Park, Iwo Jima Memorial, 5200 W. Liberty Lake Community Memorial Day Salute and Breakfast – Presented by Liberty Lake Centennial Rotary Club. Funds raised at this event will support Honor Flight. Breakfast served 8-10 a.m. with all-you-can-eat pancakes, ham, eggs and coffee. Veterans eat free. Then, at 9 a.m. there will be a dedication ceremony for the Fallen Heroes Circuit Course in memory of U.S. Air Force Capt. Victoria “Tory” Pinckney, who was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base and was killed along with two other airmen when their refueling plane went down over Kyrgyzstan in May 2013. Memorial Day Ceremony – The community is invited to attend the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs’ Memorial Day Ceremony at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Project Joy Orchestra will provide a musical tribute beginning at 10:30 a.m. Parking is available at the cemetery with overflow available along Ritchey Road. Please arrive early as parking near the event area is limited. Vernon Baker Memorial Day Lunch for Veterans – Sixth-annual event providing free meals for only active duty and prior military service members. Proof of military service required. Participating restaurants are Capone’s Pub & Grill at their Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls and Hayden locations from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; Michael D’s Eatery, 7 a.m.-1 p.m.; and Fedora Pub and Grille, 7 a.m.-10 p.m. RSVP by phone. Memorial Day Service – Presented by the Medical Lake Cemetery Association. This historic cemetery has 61 veterans, many from the Civil War. Hayden Memorial Day Ceremonies – A 10 a.m. laying of a wreath and tolling of the boats ceremony at Honeysuckle Beach to honor those lost at sea, including a rifle salute, prayer and taps. The main ceremony at 11 a.m. includes a presentation of colors, bagpipe music, the national anthem sung by Dave Sheldon, rifle salute, taps, address by Staff Sgt. Memorial Ceremony – North Spokane – Conducted by The Melvin M. Smith Detachment, Marine Corps League. This ceremony is being held as a time for family and friends to pause on this special day to remember the deceased veterans from all branches of our Armed Forces. Guest speaker will be Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich, speaking to the importance of Memorial Day.
