Washington state baseball: Lewis and Clark eliminated

Wenatchee’s Grady Miller fired a four-hitter and the Panthers blanked Lewis and Clark 3-0 at the State 4A baseball playoffs at County Stadium Saturday in Yakima.

The loss ended the Tigers’ season. LC was making its first state appearance since a first-round loss to Richland in 2010.

Miller finished with eight strikeouts and one walk. Dalton Harum went 3 for 3 to guide Wenatchee offensively.

The Panthers went on to beat Moses Lake 13-3 in the quarterfinals, setting up a semifinal game against South Kitsap next weekend in Pasco.

East Valley and Cheney were eliminated after first-round losses at Davis High School in Yakima.

East Valley fell 2-1 to Selah. The Vikings pushed across a run in the top of the seventh to break a 1-all tie, and the Knights were unable to respond in the bottom of the inning.

Selah starter Kyle Dexter went the distance, giving up just two hits while striking out 11 and walking three.

The Blackhawks were blanked 7-0 by Ellensburg. The Bulldogs’ Alonso Bibiano hit a triple and drove in three runs.

Cheney couldn’t get it going at the plate against Ellensburg starter Junior Ledgard, who pitched all seven innings. He gave up just one hit, struck out 12 and walked one.

Naches Valley’s Cam Walker outdueled Freeman’s McKabe Cottrell as the Rangers escaped with a 1-0 first-round win at Larson Playfield in Moses Lake.

The loss ended the Scotties’ season.

Walker pitched all seven innings. He gave up one hit and struck out 12.

Cottrell was nearly as dominant. He gave up three hits and struck out 12, but the Rangers were able to push across a run in the fifth.

The Scotties’ last appearance at state came in 2011, when they loss to Columbia (Burbank) in the first round.

Colfax and Davenport were eliminated after first-round losses.

DeSales, the two-time defending champion, scored five times in the first inning and beat Colfax 6-3 at Avista Stadium in Spokane.

Riverside Christian edged Davenport 9-7 at Walla Walla High School.

Colton advanced to the state title game with wins over Sunnyside Christian and Liberty Christian at Medical Lake High School.

The Wildcats used two big innings to crush Sunnyside Christian 19-0 in the first round.

Colton scored 10 in the third and nine in the fifth. Dalton Patchen, who pitched a one-hitter, had four hits, including three doubles.

The win set up a semifinal rematch against Liberty Christian, which beat Colton 2-1 at state last year.

Against Liberty Christian, the Wildcats scored four runs in the sixth to regain control and held on to win 9-6.

Colton, which won the state title in 2012, will play Oakville for the championship next Saturday at Wheeler Field in Centralia.

Also at the 1B tournament in Medical Lake, Republic was eliminated after an 8-5 first-round loss to Liberty Christian.
