In brief: China, antiques for sale at symphony fundraiser

DOWNTOWN – The Spokane Symphony is having a fundraising secondhand sale featuring fine china, quality furniture, antiques, books and many other items in the car showroom located at 1027 W. Third Ave.

Preview is today from 5 to 7 p.m. and admission is $5. The sale is Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

Children’s theater offers Schulz’s ‘Charlie Brown’

SPOKANE VALLEY – Theater Arts for Children presents “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday .

The play is based on characters created by Charles M. Schulz with music by Clark Gesner.

On Track Academy ready for Saturday fun run

HILLYARD – The On Track Academy is hosting a 5K fun run on Saturday with a 9 a.m. start in Sharpley Harmon Park, 6018 N. Regal St.

Registrations are accepted until the start of the race – download an entry form at The registration fee is $15.

For those who registered in advance, numbers may be picked up Friday at Allstate, 5101 N. Market St. All proceeds go to the On Track Academy.

Lutheran services’ fun run coming June 7 at SCC

EAST SPOKANE – Lutheran Community Services’ 3- or 5-mile fun run is at 9 a.m. June 7 with start at Spokane Community College, 1810 N. Greene St.

Registrations are due by Saturday.

Fees: $20, without a T-shirt; $25 with a T-shirt.

SpokAnimal begins bid in Rachael Ray Challenge

SPOKANE – SpokAnimal is competing in The 2014 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge with animal shelters across the nation.

To win the $100,000 award, SpokAnimal must adopt out nearly 2,000 pets in June, July and August. SpokAnimal has planned many adoption activities beginning with a kickoff event featuring more than 50 animals up for adoption on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Country Store, 5605 E. Sprague Ave.

SpokAnimal hopes to place 100 cats and dogs on Sunday alone.

Crime prevention forum offered at St. Ann’s

EAST CENTRAL – COPS is sponsoring a crime prevention forum from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at 2116 E. First Ave., on the St. Ann’s Catholic Church campus.

The event features information about Block Watch and speakers from the Spokane Police Department and COPS.

WEST CENTRAL – The Engaging Fatherhood Conference and Resource Fair will be June 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Family of Faith Community Church, 1504 W. Grace Ave.
