Obituary: Hews, Raymond Huntley

HEWS, Raymond H. Raymond Huntley Hews, passed away peacefully at the Hospice House on May 25, 2014 after suffering head trauma from a fall.

Huntley was born July 28, 1930 to Jemima and Raymond William Hews, in Sydney Australia.

He was an original, one of a kind, true Aussie, who throughout his life never lost his Australian accent which captivated us all.

Ray earned his degree as a Master Builder from the University of Sydney and pursued a lifetime career in the construction and building industry leaving his mark in many places along the way.

He loved building and design, and mentored many throughout his career.

He met his loving wife Sonia while she was working as a waitress at the Spokane House.

He always said it was love at first sight!

Winning her heart, they were married on November 18, 1973.

Perhaps “love is blind” as he had two beautiful dogs and she had four mangy kids which he loved as his own.

He loved life, his family and friends, the game of golf, playing crib and dice, and loved his glass of wine every night with dinner.

He lived his life with integrity, had a great sense of humor, and was generous and kind to everyone he knew.

His paradise on earth was the lake cabin “Huntley’s Hut” located on Coeur d’ Alene Lake, a place where family and friends have celebrated many birthdays and family gatherings.

His presence will be felt by all who spend time at the cabin in the years to come.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Helen Cooper and grandson Zachary.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years Sonia J. Hews; sister Pat Nunn, Sydney, Australia; stepson, Rick Bacon, Blythe, CA; stepdaughters Robin (Greg) Parks, Greenacres, WA; Tammi Putnam, Spokane, WA; and Heidi (Don) Zimmerman, Federal Way, WA; grandchildren Andrew, Ryan, Serena, Cathryn, Courtney, Erin and Nikki; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Nathan, Ava and Trig; and nephews Stephen, Warran, Lewis, David and Greg, in Sydney, Australia; and many friends.

He will be greatly missed by all.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30 pm, Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the home of Robin and Greg Parks, 501 N. Bell St. Greenacres, WA.
