Air Force bests Army to win Commander-in-Chief’s trophy

Kale Pearson hit tight end Garrett Griffin for a 54-yard touchdown early in the third quarter to break open a tense game, Will Conant kicked three field goals and Air Force (6-2) beat Army 23-6 on Saturday in West Point, New York, to win the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy for a record 19th time.

Army (2-6) hasn’t captured the coveted hardware, emblematic of supremacy among the three service academies, since it won its sixth in 1996.

BYU 27, Middle Tennessee 7: Christian Stewart passed for 316 yards and two TDs and ran for a score helping the Cougars (5-4) end a four-game losing streak with a win over the Blue Raiders (5-4) in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

North Dakota State 37, South Dakota State 17: John Crockett rushed for 152 yards and two TDs and the Bison (9-0, 5-0 Missouri Valley) won their 33rd straight game, beating the Jackrabbits (5-4, 2-3) in Fargo, North Dakota.

Michigan 34, Indiana 10: Devin Gardner threw for two TDs and Drake Johnson ran for two, helping the Wolverines (4-5, 2-3 Big Ten) beat the Hoosiers (3-5, 0-4) in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in the aftermath of athletic director Dave Brandon’s resignation.

Miami 47, North Carolina 20: Duke Johnson rushed for 177 yards and three TDs – including a 90-yarder – and Brad Kaaya tossed three TD passes as the Hurricanes (6-3, 3-2 ACC) rolled over the Tar Heels (4-5, 2-3) in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Harvard 23, Dartmouth 12: Paul Stanton Jr. ran for two scores, Anthony Firkser scored on a trick-play pass from Seitu Smith II as the Crimson (7-0, 4-0 Ivy League) beat the Big Green (5-2, 3-1) in Hanover, New Hampshire, in a rivalry game that dates to 1882.
