Every vote counts

Voter pamphlets and ballots have arrived, and many have already voted. To those who have not, I ask, “Why not?”

Too many people in this world do not have the freedom to choose, yet many U.S. citizens fail to exercise their right to participate in the decision-making processes that shape our communities and our nation. And by opting out of the democratic process, they give up their choice of the leaders and representatives who will do things that are important to them.

In many states, people wait in long lines to vote. Here in Washington, we have it pretty easy: Just fill out your ballot, seal it, sign it, and drop it in the mailbox. For the price of a postage stamp – a mere 49 cents – you have the opportunity to let your voice be heard. Every vote counts!
